London Calling!

Jut got back from London and what a terrific City! Pat and I had a blast and except for a bit of a hic-up on the flight back (I did my own version of OJ running through the Atlanta airport) it went flawlessly. Lucy Noel

Meet Lucy Noel. She is a miniature Australian Shepherd. She was born on Xmas day 2009 (hence her middle name). She is a bundle of energy but smart. Obedience and training classes are in order for this little trouble maker. When I brought her in and surprised Dad, his face lit up. He was grinning from ear to ear. For an old crumugon who always claimed not to like dogs...he sure was down after Cindy died. Lucy will keep him company and she already is clinging to his side. She sits there and stares at him...she finds him fascinating for some reason.

My Best Friend

I'm sorry to say that Friday March 26, at approximately 10:45 AM, I lost my best friend Cindy. I held her in my arms while the Doctor administered the drug to put her to sleep. I was forced to put her down due to a massive tumor in her spleen. She hadn't been eating and I discovered the fatal cause Thursday afternoon. I got to spend one last night with her.

I know to some people losing a pet is not that traumatic but I was so close to that dog. I used to take her everywhere with me, the park, the store, work, long driving trips. I can't tell how many endless hours I spent throwing the tennis ball to her. I will write a list of my favorite "Cindy Memories" whenever I can find the strength to think about it.

She was approximately 12 years old. I adopted her from a Rescue group in Orlando, FL approximately 10 years ago. She was scheduled to be euthanized the day she was rescued. I think I gave her a good life. More importantly, I know that she definitely made my life 100% better. Having her run to the door to greet me every night when I get home for work, sleeping next to her, playing with her and talking to her are just a few of the things I'll miss most. I needed her as much as she needed me.

"Biggest Goal in history by an American in European Soccer"

The above quote is from Sport's Illustrated Grant Wahl yesterday after Clint "Duece" Dempsey scored the decisive goal against Italy's power house club Juventus. Fulham needed to win by at least three to win the home/home aggregate goal tally. They were down 1-0 in the first half...his goal at the end of the game put Fulham up 4-1 and through to the round of 8 in Europa League. Check out the video to the left. The crowd at Fulham (a London club) goes absolutely nuts! Let's hope he has more of these this July in South Africa where the U.S. will be taking on England and others in the World Cup.

Government 101

Recently, a friend on Facebook commented that his son's History teacher refused to admit that his son answered a test question correctly. The question was, "How man U.S. Presidents have been Impeached." His son answered "Two". The teacher marked it wrong and said the correct answer was "Zero". This is a pet peeve of mine. As a Poly Sci major I can recall (I'm old) that many people get this confused

Lesson:

The House has the authority to "impeach" the President (VP and others) by a simple majority vote. If the vote passes, that person is considered "Impeached" the end. Think of it like an indictment in Court. Once a President is Impeached he can remain in office and go forward with business as usual.

The Senate has the authority to "Convict" and remove from office the official Impeached by the House. If they decide to convict, and remove from office it must pass by super majority (2/3 vote). The Chief Just of the Supreme Court presides over the Senate proceedings.

Two U.S. Presidents, Clinton and Johnson, have been Impeached. None have been convicted by the Senate or removed from office. The Impeachment process ends after the House vote. Both Clinton and Johnson were acquitted by the Senate.

Many people get the two processes confused but for a school teacher to not know the difference or to admit that he was wrong is unbelievable. Basically, I told my friend, "Your son's teacher is an idiot".

That is your history lesson of the day. I'm excited to go pick up my new Craftsman Tool chest and accessories from Sears. How sad is it that the highlight of my weekend is finally getting all my tools organized.

Check out the video to the left of a band Susan discovered on YouTube. Good to see a young band bringing Grunge back. Rock on!

Peru Trip

I will post a link to all my photos from my Xmas trip to Peru, in the meantime, here is a sample. The view from the tower in the Amazon (Posada Amazonas, Tambopata), breath taking! We had to take a 3 hour boat ride up the Rio de Madre to get to the Eco Lodge...no roads to the jungle!
Kids selling stuff in Sacred Valley outside the restaurant we had lunch.
Aguas Calientes (or Machu Picchu town) at the base of Machu Picchu (the Urubamba river)
The Sacred Valley near Pisac....possibly the most beautiful place on earth
